Imposter syndrome – the feeling that one isn’t nearly as skilled or competent as they truly are – affects over 70% of people throughout the course of their lives, according to a recent study. It can manifest in a number of ways, from feeling undeserving of your title despite your qualifications and achievements to continually overworking yourself, but never feeling like you’ve done enough.
Imposter syndrome not only affects young professionals’ motivation and productivity at work, it can also contribute to anxiety and depression, taking a major toll on personal well-being. Making an effort to build confidence, embrace achievements and recognition, and silence self-criticism can help young professionals combat imposter syndrome and feelings of self-doubt in the workplace. Join the Young Professionals Council to gain practical, actionable insights into how to build and sustain self-esteem at work.
