Energized Economy: Advancing Energy-Enabled Economic Growth

Wednesday, November 13, 2019
8:00 AM – 10:15 AM

Job growth in our region’s energy economy is reaching new heights.

The natural gas industry continues to stimulate the regional economy, boosting jobs and manufacturing. According to the Consumer Energy Alliance, Pennsylvania’s oil and gas pipeline industry grew 153.5 percent last year — creating over 21,000 jobs. With many regional industries, from health care to higher education, relying on natural gas for heat and electricity generation, natural gas will remain a significant contributor to our economic growth.

As natural gas continues to energize the economy, the clean energy market has also provided new opportunities for growth. Clean energy jobs in energy-efficiency, renewables, and clean-vehicle manufacturing grew significantly last year, more so than any other energy sector. As states begin to offer incentives and grants geared for clean energy development, the market for clean energy jobs and the region’s economy will continue to advance.

Hear from Karen Harbert, President, American Gas Association, who will discuss the positive impact of natural gas on our region’s current economy and long-term economic outlook. A sequence of flash talks will follow highlighting clean energy, the Pennsylvania Shell ethylene cracker plant, and how both have contributed to the regional economy.
