PROGRAM: 9:00am-10:30am
Join the Arts + Business Council, a Council of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, and Daymond John (CEO and founder of FUBU, New York Times bestselling author, and star on ABC’s Shark Tank) to hear how Daymond rose from sewing hats in his Hollis, Queens living room to the head of FUBU, a global brand that pioneered the melding of fashion, entertainment and hip-hop culture. Drawing on his unique journey to becoming the face of American entrepreneurship, Daymond discusses the importance of mentoring and investing in minority entrepreneurs and shares tools from his latest book, Rise and Grind, for achieving personal and professional goals.
Known worldwide as an innovative marketing and branding expert, Daymond’s model of integrating fashion and hip-hop has served as the template for moguls like P. Diddy, Nelly and Jay-Z in their successful clothing enterprises. Today, Daymond works with organizations such as the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to spread the word to urban entrepreneurs that funding and mentorship opportunities are available to them. In 2015, President Obama selected him to be a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship. Daymond’s New York Times bestseller, The Power of Broke, was awarded the 2017 NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Literary Work – Instructional.”
This event will showcase the region’s best leadership stories, as well as focus on minority entrepreneurs and minority-led startups. As entrepreneurs increasingly rise from minority communities, nontraditional backgrounds and regions outside of Silicon Valley and New York City, it has never been more urgent to have conversations about how these innovators can be supported from within and from outside their communities.
