Tuesday, March 25, 2025
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

What can the business community do to support efforts to employ those impacted by the justice system? Join us for an informative conversation with a panel of experts on fair chance hiring. Learn about available tools, best practices for updating HR policies, diversifying your talent pool, and shifting your hiring culture to support these initiatives.

Recent legislation and initiatives have aimed to improve the employment prospects for the nearly 400,000 people who have had contact with the justice system in our region. Fair chance practices are a priority, not only because of the ability to change a person's life or career prospects, but also by reducing recidivism. According to the Brookings Institution, individuals are less likely to commit crimes or be reincarcerated when they have stable, secure, full-time employment.

A 2022 report highlights that lack of employment increases the likelihood of rearrest or reincarceration. Additionally, a report from the Philadelphia Reentry Coalition in 2018 revealed that in Philadelphia County, one in three individuals released from prison in 2015 was rearrested or reincarcerated within a year.

One approach, "Ban the Box," restricts or prohibits employer inquiries about an applicant's criminal record until a conditional offer of employment has been made. Other methods encourage voluntary efforts by employers or via tax incentives. Locally, the City of Philadelphia's Commerce Department has implemented the Fair Chance Hiring Initiative.

Unlock the potential of your workforce by embracing fair chance hiring. Join us to learn how you can make a meaningful impact.
