    For the second year in a row, Comcast Business is hosting a casting call for the ABC show “Shark Tank” in Philadelphia, providing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs an opportunity to achieve their business aspirations in the upcoming 9th season of the program.

    The casting call will take place at XFINITY Live! 1100 Pattison Avenue, on Wednesday, June 28.

    The first 500 entrepreneurs to arrive at each open casting call are guaranteed to be seen and will pitch the “Shark Tank” casting team with their business concepts, products or ideas. For further casting call information and to fill out an application, please visit

    Comcast Business is bringing additional amenities to this casting call, including free WiFi, charging stations for wireless devices, guest speakers and a lounge area where attendees can network with other local entrepreneurs.

    The Comcast Foundation and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney on Thursday honored two local students with the Gustave G. Amsterdam Leadership Award at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s annual Mayoral Luncheon. Comcast Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer David L. Cohen presented Fakira Awawdeh and Widchard Faustin with individual $5,000 scholarship awards at the luncheon, held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.

    Finalists for the Gus Amsterdam Leadership Awards are chosen from the winners of the Comcast Foundation’s Leaders and Achievers scholarships. The nationwide Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program recognizes students for academic achievement, leadership skills, and a commitment to community service. The Gus Amsterdam award targets students who attended high school in Philadelphia and are continuing their education at a college or university in the city.

    The Comcast Foundation awarded more than $1.86 million in grants to 49 nonprofit organizations located in Comcast's Freedom Region, which serves Greater Philadelphia, New Jersey and northern Delaware, in 2016. The grants support programs aimed at the Comcast Foundation's areas of focus – expanding digital literacy, promoting community service, and building tomorrow's leaders.

    "Comcast is proud to award these grants to our partner organizations to connect and strengthen the communities we serve," said Jim Samaha, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Freedom Region. "Thanks to the tireless and invaluable work of these nonprofit organizations, our Region is a better place to call home."

  • Comcast Increases Internet Speeds for Majority of Customers from Maine to Virginia

    Comcast announced it is significantly increasing the speeds of two of its most popular Internet speed tiers – Blast! and Performance Pro – for both new and existing customers in the Northeast Division, which includes 14 northeastern states. Most Blast! customers will see their download speeds increase from 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps, and Performance Pro customers will see an increase from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps, both at no additional cost.

    To get the increased speeds, customers need to re-start their modems. Customers who lease modems from Comcast will be able to receive upgraded modems at no additional charge. Customers who own their own modems and need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds will need to purchase a new modem (a list of approved modems can be found online at or can lease a new modem from Comcast.

  • Open Casting Call: ABC's "Shark Tank"

    Entrepreneurs in the Greater Philadelphia area looking to take their business ideas to the next level will have the chance to turn their dreams into reality when ABC’s “Shark Tank” comes to Philadelphia on Friday, June 10th. ABC has teamed up with Comcast Business to bring entrepreneurs the chance to build their business during an open casting call at Xfinity Live (1100 Pattison Ave.).

    During the open call, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to present a one minute pitch of their business/product/idea to a member of the casting team. Throughout the day, there will be several speakers including casting director, Reed Cordish VP of Cordish Companies, the real estate company that developed Xfinity Live!

    Interested entrepreneurs should arrive at Xfinity Live early. Wristbands will be distributed from 9-11 a.m. The first 500 applicants are guaranteed to be seen. Applicants MUST fill out an application in advance:

    Comcast Business announced that for the third consecutive year the company will seek out the nation’s most innovative startup companies and entrepreneurs to participate in its Innovations 4 Entrepreneurs competition.
