  • SCA Partners with City of Philadelphia to Introduce new Composting/Recycling Program for Outdoor Events

Posted on 11/14/2012 by Ms. Diane Engler of Essity

SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company with Americas headquarters in Philadelphia, announced a partnership with the City of Philadelphia to launch a new waste removal program including composting that will divert an estimated 2.5 million pounds of waste a year from landfills. SCA invested nearly $175,000 to purchase, design and develop new waste bin stations and donated them to the city for use at outdoor events. SCA collaborated with the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and the Department of Streets to ensure the bin stations are easy for people to sort waste by trash, compost and recycling. The new waste bin stations will be introduced at the upcoming Philadelphia Marathon, November 17-18.

“Partnering with SCA to enhance our recycling capabilities, reduce landfill waste and bring first-ever composting to our outdoor events makes perfect sense,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter.
