  • Cheyney University Inaugural View Party

Posted on 1/13/2009 by Ms. T. Bernette Wright of Cheyney University

CHEYNEY, PA – (January 13, 2009) – Cheyney University of Pennsylvania will hold a viewing party for the Inauguration of President-Elect-Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 beginning at 11:30a.m., 2nd floor of Marcus Foster Student Union.

The University will feature the view party on a large screen projector T.V. that will broadcast the installation ceremony from Washington, D.C.

Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital, University President, said, “It is so heartwarming for me to see the many Americans who have seen something of their own stories in the story of the blended family of President Obama. I feel hope when the students in our American schools can see a positive ending to academic excellence, hard work, deferred gratification, and commitment to the American ideals.”

Students, faculty, staff and community residents are encouraged to stop by to witness this historic event on our historic campus that is co-located in Chester and Delaware Counties.

Posted on 10/20/2008 by Ms. T. Bernette Wright of Cheyney University

Nancy Moses, author of Lost in the Museum: Buried Treasures and the Stories They Tell, will have a book signing and panel presentation at Cheyney University on Friday, November 7, at 1 p.m. in the Marcus Foster Student Union. The event is sponsored by the Delaware Valley, Pa. Chapter of The Links, Inc.. It is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow the discussion. Lost in the Museum will be recommended reading for incoming Cheyney University students beginning in Spring 2009. The book follows the journey behind crowded galleries and chic museum shops, through the “employees only” doors and into the crypts. It tells the stories that have not been told and invites the reader to learn more about the items related to an exhibit, those that are not on display, but tucked away in a vault.

  • Star-Studded Panel Coming to Cheyney

Posted on 10/20/2008 by Ms. T. Bernette Wright of Cheyney University

Daddy’s Promise: A Lifetime of Love, the nationwide initiative celebrating the bond between African American fathers and daughters, will be making a stop at Cheyney University on Monday, October 27th. The tour of prominent colleges and churches is designed to foster a nationwide conversation within African American families about the critical role a father plays in his daughter’s life.

The event will be hosted by Ed Gordon, the award-winning television journalist and founder of Daddy’s Promise: A Lifetime of Love. Gordon was inspired by his relationship with his 14-year-old daughter Taylor to create an organization that provides guidance and encouragement for fathers to help their daughters grow into independent and accomplished young women.

“It is our intention that the events bring attention to the invaluable contribution that a father makes to his daughter’s life and to provide support for men in creating the most loving and productive relationships they can,” says Gordon.
