  • Torcon Breathes New Life into Historic Campus Buildings

Posted on 4/29/2014 by Ms. Jackie Harris of Torcon, Inc.

The historic ARCH (Arts, Research and Culture House) at The University of Pennsylvania is a campus landmark. Penn and its design team transformed the 83-year-old Gothic Revival building into a welcoming campus center. The now completed restoration incorporates modern technology and energy efficiency, while preserving the building's history.

Refurbishing older structures with modern building systems is a challenge. The ARCH’s architectural style and masonry construction provided minimal room for vertical utility chases. Utilizing BIM technology, Torcon was able to assist the design effort and efficiently manage installation and coordination. With the project complete, the ARCH is now a vibrant hub for campus life at Penn.

As colleges and universities are now reimagining historic buildings to create exciting, student-focused spaces, Torcon is providing broad expertise and innovative solutions. To learn more about this and other campus restoration projects, visit Torcon.com.

  • September 11th Memorial

Posted on 9/13/2012 by Mr. Michael K. Armento of Torcon, Inc.

Earlier this week, along the banks of the Schuylkill River, a September 11th Memorial was dedicated to provide a permanent reminder of the courage and sacrifice witnessed eleven years ago. The new Philadelphia landmark was commemorated by the honorable Mayor of Philadelphia Michael Nutter, Deputy Mayor Michael DiBerardinis and Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers. A steel beam from the World Trade Center is the focal point of the monument, which serves to honor those who lost their lives, including three Philadelphians, and the families affected by the tragic loss.

Like so many public endeavors, it took a dedicated team of supporters, who donated their time at little or no cost, to bring this project to fruition. It was a privilege for Torcon to lend assistance to the planning and construction of the monument along with many others.

As years continue to pass, the Memorial will stand as a constant reminder of those we will never forget.
